Education
Yakima Health District's Handwashing
Education is a multi-part
program. The the winter months
and after school has let out
in the summer, we focus on
childcare handwashing presentation.
These presentations are at
no cost to the childcare.
Healthy kids mean steady attendance
and happy parents. Handwashing
is our number one defense
against diseases that make
kids sick and keep them at
home. The Yakima Health District
wants to encourage you to
teach your children the importance
of protecting themselves by
washing their hands properly.
Our
presentation is age-appropriate
and focuses on proper handwashing
and the spread of illness.
The presentation uses the
Glitterbug black light that
shows children how well they
wash their hands; the children
rub the lotion on their hands,
wash, and then see which spots
they missed by looking for
the areas of their hands that
still glow under the black
light.
This
presentation is available
Monday-Friday between 8am
and 5pm, depending on scheduling
availability. There are four
things that are necessary
in order to have a successful
presentation: an electrical
outlet, a child-sized table
for the black light, a TV/VCR,
and one or more sinks stocked
with liquid soap and papertowels.
The presentation takes approximately
45 minutes for a classroom
of 20 students; however, we
can schedule the presentation
for whatever amount of time
is necessary.
If
you are interested in discussing
the presentation further or
scheduling an appointment,
please call Darlene Agnew
at (509) 249-6514 or Perla
Benitez (habla español)
at (509) 249-6517. Remember:
Handwashing is our best defense
against disease and together
we can all help keep children
healthier.
